Bella’s Cuisine
4 out of 5 stars
Bella’s Cuisine houses some yummy Southern cooking in a cute stone cottage hidden off an unsightly portion of Guess Rd in North Durham.
The inside decor has been updated, questionably so. It still looks like the same school of design that the Brig’s people went to. Revival early 90’s retirement home dining room. So it won’t win any awards for coziness. But the food is right outta someone’s mama’s kitchen. Side note, I really do think Brig’s was decorated from one giant trip to Kirkland’s end of season sale.
Note the woman in the picture above with her head in her hands. She really needs some Southern home cookin’ about now. When I feel like that I normally head to Elmo’s but now I have another great option.
Sharon tried fried chicken fingers, fried apples and fried okra. The chicken fingers were nummy, with a clearly homemade breading and the okra was fresh and crispy. I had country fried steak with macaroni and cheese and a corn salad. I liked the homemade taste of the macaroni and cheese, and the steak was decent too. An interesting thing about this restaurant is that they have a good selection of vegetarian options, like fried green tomatoes, veggie lettuce wraps, pasta, and polenta cakes (and many more).
We’d definitely come back here. Service was great, food was fresh and the prices are very reasonable. And good to know, they have half-price bottles of wine on Wednesdays.
