Raleigh Times

4 out of 5 stars

Met here for drinks last night and enjoyed the atmosphere. The decor is awesome in a hope-the-building-doesn’ t-crumble-and-fall-on- top-of-me sort of way. The historic building is scattered with old photographs from the old newspaper days and the walls are as-is with remnants of old wallpaper and other types of things still stuck to it. This gives it an authenticity you won’t find in a Disney style chain restaurant painted with a faux-plastering technique.

The Times has a huge beer selection (and some wine too) and creative appetizers at reasonable prices. We tried the fried pickles, crab dip with pita bread, and guacamole. We enjoyed all of the above but didn’t end up staying for dinner. Next time I’ll have to give some of the entrees a shot. This is definitely a nice place to meet up with some friends. Update: I’ve been here many times since and really enjoyed their burgers and other entrees. Last time I had a scrumptious salami brie burger, and hubs fully enjoyed his pastrami on rye. While you may have to wait sometimes to get a table (hovering rudely if that’s what it takes), it’s worth it to eat some of these munchables and sip on the impressive beer selection. Note that they are not known for their mixed drinks so consider avoiding. Also, service can be decidedly hipster.
