PieBird

PieBird is a unique litte pie shop and cafe in Raleigh’s Oakwood neighborhood. The restaurant’s origin is like an American dream story – after a layoff, Sheilagh started making pies for neighbors and suddenly couldn’t keep up with demand. She joined forces with a neighbor Krishna to open this shop near their homes.

The decor is very lively with a cute fireplace in the back room.

We both chose from the daily specials. I had the Tomato Pie with three kinds of cheeses. I chose the fries as my side, which came crusted with pretty (but too much) salt. They also came with two sauces, a mustard mayo combo sauce and ketchup. I am a huge fan of the mustard mayo combination.

The pie itself was yummy, the tomato was fresh and the crust was tender. And look how pretty! The drizzle of basalmic vinegar was a nice compliment to the creamy cheese and tart tomato.

My table-mate Susan had the BLTA with the same garden fresh tomatoes.

I ordered a slice of dessert pie to go, the peanut butter chocolate. Of course I ate it too fast to take a picture. The chocolatey oreo crust was my favorite part. For me, the filling was too rich and sweet to finish the slice.

Overall, I enjoyed my meal at PieBird and would return again. Next time I’ll order a traditional savory pie and try a fruit pie.
