Pancho Villa’s Mexican Grill in Cary, NC

2 out of 5 stars

I wasn’t sure what to expect here after reading very mixed reviews, but we stopped by to try out some tacos. I was encouraged when I saw them making homemade corn tortillas for each order, but confused because they also were pouring salsa from a Wal-Mart sized salsa container for chips. The ordering process was confusing because everyone seemed to get wildly different (and higher) pricing than what was listed on the menu. I spent about $13 for three tacos and an order of guacamole. The meat wasn’t as good quality or as flavorful as I hoped it would be. The accompaniments and the guac, some fresh radish and grilled onion, were nice. But I would have been happier with one of my favorites like Chubby’s or Los Comales.

We were also a little tired of watching Univision’s TV novelas while we ate. It seems others have had better experiences here, and they do have $1 tacos on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. So that might be the ideal day to try them, as long as they don’t get too crowded.
