The Big Easy

2 out of 5 stars

The Big Easy has an extensive menu but despite this and the creative atmosphere, my friends and I were disappointed. Service was a big part of it, which may have been a fluke. There were eight of us and our waitress delivered wrong meals and was missing one meal – she was just generally scatterbrained. So it was convenient that her tip was included in the bill. Well that took the establishment down a star.

On to the food.. I ordered the lobster ravioli in a walnut cream sauce. Because this is on the pasta menu it does not come with a salad, although it seemed like most of the entrees didn’t come with a salad. I’m actually confused about the salad issue because the menu on their website says that all dinner entrees come with a salad and cornbread. Anyway, my ravioli didn’t have a lot of lobster flavor and the sauce was greasy and uninspired. A friend sitting next to me ordered crawfish etoufee, she seemed to enjoy it. Others were enamored by their she-crab soups. But the gumbo and jambalaya didn’t wow two other guests.

I guess this place is a mixed bag. As we were leaving the door-tender was charging cover as they were about to start up a dixie band. Perhaps they are more famous for the night life?
