Delightful Mexican Brunch

I met my friend Connie in Houston for the weekend, not because of the giant mall (although we did go there) but because it's the only place we could affordably meet halfway between South Florida and Salt Lake City.  I did heavy brunch research beforehand and we ended up trying out Hugo's, because we wanted to experience some Mexican cuisine while we were so much closer to the border than usual.  I was slightly apprehensive about Mexican food as a breakfast-time meal, but it was delicious.

While we waited for a table, we ordered some specialty mimosas which were wonderful.  They even had a prickly pear margarita.  They seem to change the specialty drinks each week.  There was also a three part band playing upstairs.  Incredibly relaxing music, a guitarist and two different bongo type players.

The buffet was amazing.. the selection included refried black beans, squash blossom casserole, Clam and Mussell stew, chicken mole tamales, seafood enchiladas, deep fried cauliflower, fresh tortilla chips and guacamole, ceviche, a lovely octopus salad, a latino version of shrimp cocktail… and that's not including the dessert table.  That held some fresh hot cocoa, tres leches cake, fresh fruit, mini churros, cookies and  flan.
