Christina’s

3 out of 5 stars

Hidden spot for downtown breakfast and lunch

Christina's I somehow stumbled upon during my wanderings downtown, and was tempted by the smell. It's right next to Kyoto's, further away from the street, and it seems like it's in it's own little courtyard. I got a crew of hungry folk together one lunchtime and we tested Christina's out. They have a small menu and seem to be somewhat undiscovered, which is good if it's season. A dish I've had two or three times is the cobb salad ($9). All very fresh greens with homemade dressing, topped with gently grilled chicken and fresh avocado. It was a very filling salad for $9. I've gone on more guilt-ridden days and had a perfectly done-to-juiciness burger. Most everything on the menu will get you a meal for $9.

I finally got to Christina's for breakfast and I was dissapointed, so I had to downgrade them a star. The menu includes choices like Cinnamon Nut French Toast and an Eggs Filet Mignon, which got me excited. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and it was a bit too peppery and lemony. I need a milder benedict, perhaps with a touch of mustard and lemon but not overpowering. The english muffin was good, but that shouldn't be the star of the dish. The home fries were also too peppery for me, and the food was lukewarm when it got to us, even though the place was relatively empty. My husband had the corned beef hash, and it was typical of any breakfast place, the canned stuff. Perhaps they are better at sweet breakfast, the pancakes looked good. But for $6 for three they better be! My $8.50 benedict was not worth the price, and hubby's corned beef was around $6 as well.

Christina's has nice seating outside near a muraled wall, or A/C inside.
