Sarah’s Empanadas

2 out of 5 stars

RTP is definitely not an area I have explored much of yet. But when @GwynneMurphy invited me out to try some empanadas, I just couldn’t resist, despite that it’s a bit of a haul from the ole’ Tobacco Campus.

The sign in the window listed some tasty-looking specials, including a quinoa, cucumber and tomato salad topped with avocado as a side to the empanada of your choice. And how could one go wrong with some fresh guava juice?

I took a seat and gazed at the Bolivian llama-haired wall decor and wondered what exactly I was in for. Unfortunately at this moment I zoned out at the menu and forgot all about the fresh juice.

We each ordered two empanadas along with rice and beans. I chose a beef w/ cheese and a spinach and cheese. Unfortunately, the quality of the filling was not what I expected, nothing like the heavenly empanadas I enjoyed at Argie Grill in Fort Lauderdale. Both the outer shell and the inner fillings were very bland (read- frozen or canned veg) and I felt that the quality of even the rice and beans were sub-par. I really could have used some chimichurri sauce to spice things up!
