Pam’s Farmhouse

If you just have a little bit of cash in your pocket, and a hankering for some simple Southern cooking, head on over to Pam’s Farmhouse. It looks a bit like a VFW out front, attached to a bar called “The Goat”. It’s not horribly scary but also not too welcoming. You’ll feel welcome, though, when you get inside. From the vinyl-covered chairs that hug your bottom to the concave coffee mugs that hug your hand and the sweet Southern service.

I tried a pancake and a side of bacon, my mom had a breakfast biscuit sandwich, and we split a half order of biscuits and gravy. The pancake was large and thick, with a chewy bottom that was over-done. Mom’s sandwich was yummy and filling, and we barely had room enough to eat much of the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were fresh and fluffy but the gravy was a bit spicy, with flecks of sausage, but with too much flour for my taste. My Internet sources say this place has the best country ham and red eye gravy around.

Still, prices are nice and low, and I hear rumors of a full house enjoying the homey lunch daily (and breakfast all day). Service is pretty quick and efficient, and the servers seems to know most of the people that come in. If I lived nearby I would probably be a regular too.
