Ole Time Barbeque
Sometimes when the weather is dreary, the only way to feel warm inside is to have some good ole Southern comfort food. I knew about Pam’s Farmhouse, but some Capstratters introduced me to another down-home eatery right on Hillsborough Street, Ole Time Barbecue.
You’ll find a little white building decked in yellow awnings. Wander in and seat yourself at the bar or one of the wood-veneer booths. You might have a little time after looking at the menu to browse the odes to the pig covering the walls and shelves. Or ponder how long it takes to become a regular and get your name imprinted on a seat at the bar.
My pulled pork platter at Ole Time Barbecue fit the comfort-food bill. The picture really speaks for itself. It was like something my Grandma would have made, except that she knows nothing of pulled pork.
Offerings aside from the pulled pork includes burgers, dogs, ribs, BBQ or fried chicken, and brunswick stew or chicken pastry. For the relocated Yankees like myself, chicken pastry is similar to chicken and dumplings. But in this case the dumplings are made of flat pastry, not big biscuity lumps. Homemade desserts are featured each day, something to check out if you’re not stuffed after your meal.
Ole Time Barbecue does take out, too. For when it’s Dad’s turn to make dinner (or tailgate).
They also serve breakfast 6AM-10AM.
