3 out of 5 stars
Closest thing to a Jewish deli I’ve seen since I’ve been here in Raleigh. Good sandwiches, also serve breakfasts and delectable selection of desserts. They even have chopped liver, knishes, “properly steamed pastrami” according to chowhounders, as well as rugelach, smoked fish and matzoh ball soup. What’s missing? A cranky attitude, which surprisingly I sometimes miss. In boca you could always witness the retirees and waitstaff yelling at each other over something. Anyhow, I’d like to stop back here with my long island-born hubby.

My problem with them is that the first time I went they had great rye bread, firm nice crust and flavor. The two last times they were using the soft fake stuff out of a bag. Each time I talked to the owner who indicated that too many people complained that the bread was too hard to chew, and yes he is aware that his in store baked bread is better.
too hard to chew come on people if you want white bread ask for it, don’t have the rye bread turned into white.
Well, I think you should give it 5 stars because the cranky attitude is not missing. It’s there- but not with the patrons. I’ve found it with the owner. You know that little grenade by the register that says “Complaint? Take a number!” and the number is attached to the pin on the grenade? Well, that’s about the attitude you get there. Maybe that makes it authentic? I still go there, so it must not bother me too much. I feel I’m in the “testing” phase. Here’s my pro/con list:
PROS:
It’s really close to my house. I love delis. It’s hard to find pumpernickel bread. Chocolate croissants. Hard-to-find Hershey’s ice cream.
CONS:
Minor musky/ moldy smell (cashier said it was a pipe problem that will be repaired… someday). One sandwich was on stale bread. Owner was rude to two other customers on two separate occasions. Potato pancakes were really dry.
The jury is still out!
