Fig Cafe & Wine Bar [CLOSED]

UPDATE: Fig is now closed.

ORIGINAL POST:

Fig is an interesting combination of a restaurant. They are a coffee shop and wine bar but also offer fine dining. A fine dining restaurant with a drive through – that’s a new one! The two sisters who own it both have foodie pasts, one being a culinary instructor and the other having worked for Kraft and Russell Stover.

Fig Cafe Wake ForestFig has a really charming atmosphere, as it is located in an old house built in 1930. The property has some lovely wraparound porches for warm days, and a fireplace inside.

On our visit, a dinner with friends, we sampled a cheese plate while we sipped samples and glasses of wine dispensed from the wine machines. You purchase a loaded card with money for wine and then use the card to dispense yourself different sizes of wine, from a one ounce taste to a full glass.

We sampled some wine and munched on an itty bitty cheese platter. Then enjoyed seared scallops over white beans, the deconstructed caesar salad, chicken wings, seared scallops and white beans, and a steak and barley dish. While portions are small, it does leave room for the fantastic dessert. Which was too quickly consumed to photograph. An amazingly chocolate brownie and a little apple tart with ice cream.
