Black Cat Cafe – Small cafe hidden away at North Hills – CLOSED

UPDATE: Black Cat Cafe has closed.

4 out of 5 stars

A stop at Black Cat Cafe recently was really a second choice, because we were headed to Another Broken Egg but the wait was 40 minutes! But I’m so glad we remembered about Black Cat Cafe and ended up there. We really enjoyed our choices.

I had the shrimp and grits, which were creamy but not overly so, missing the heavy cream and cheese that they don’t really need. The poached egg was a little crispy around the edges and the yolk spilled out nicely when poked. Hubs had an omelette and the kiddo enjoyed his cheese and scrambled egg quesadilla. The fruit salad was nice as well, with very fresh fruit, even in winter.

Since our first visit, we’ve been back twice. I’ve tried the huevos rancheros, the crab benedict, and the MEWsli. I wouldn’t order the crab cake benedict again, I prefer a more traditional approach on that with the english muffin underneath. My huevos rancheros were good but I would have preferred chorizo on it and a crispy corn tortilla crust. However, every meal there has been satisfying and relaxing. I appreciate the good service, tucked-away location, the healthier options and the kid-friendly (but not tot-filled) atmosphere.
