Bavarian Brathaus

Glen enjoyed perusing the decor here at the Brathaus because he spent a good amount of time in Germany as a youngster. The German flags, cuckoo clocks, and quaint decor were nice to look at while sipping a Bitburger and waiting for our brats to arrive.

I ordered the standard 1 brat plate with a regular brat ($9) while Glen tried a curry brat and a garlic brat. The brats come on a crusty delicious home-baked roll, and with a side of mild sauerkraut and some mashed potatoes. The brats had a crisp skin and dense meat, I found mine a bit too dry and bland and preferred Glen’s garlic brat. The curry brat I could just not get into! While I would have preferred lumpier mashed potatoes (these seem to have come from a mix) and a stronger sauerkraut, the meal was generally pleasing and the atmosphere and congeniality of the hostess and owner really made a difference.

I’m curious about the schnitzel and other specialties (which are all around $22!) and it would be fun to head over here when the German band is playing. If you’re worried about the prices, try them out for lunch when it’s a little less expensive. The bar would also be a great place to spend some time.
